TALK SHOW - THESE PEOPLE EP
South London group Talk Show put a new twist onto 70s Post-Punk and 80’s New Wave sound, however only 13 months ago they were learning to build their street cred with their debut single ‘Fast and Loud’.
Fast-forward to now and Talk Show have caught the attention of YALA! Records and fans across the UK and Europe, supporting a variety of artists such as Fontaines D.C., Squid, Fat White Family, Crows, The Murder Capital, Black Country New Road and Pip Blom.
After a year of cutting teeth on the road, Talk Show created the masterpiece that is These People, which vocalist and guitarist Harrison Swann says was “mostly written whilst on public transport”. Having only four tracks, this EP has a very driven rhythm section with Chloe MacGregor on drums, and George Sullivan on bass. Tom Holmes rounds out the band’s sound with melodic guitar on their tracks like ‘Stress’.
Holmes catches the attention while Swann poetically articulates a story in his thick Manchester accent. ‘Atomica’, a punk melodic reminder of Rage Against the Machine’s ‘Killing In The Name Of’, is a fun bass driven ditty.
My personal favorite on this EP is ‘Banshee’. With a lighter feel, Swann brings back melodic vocals to the chorus track. ‘Petrolhead’, the final track rounding out the EP is a driving punk anthem that I could definitely see being in an action packed Jerry Bruckheimer film.
These People EP is a wonderful example of how music can take you to another time and place entirely, and gives each listener their own unique experience.
