BALCONY TALK - CALENDAR DAZE EP
Calendar Daze is the second EP from solo alternative project, Balcony Talk, by Anthony Cafiero. Balcony Talk began as a small side project, however after leaving his other band in early 2019, Anthony decided to invest in Balcony Talk further. The concept for the EP is about how we live by the calendar and get caught up with busy working schedules and more that “sometimes forgetting what's really important in our personal lives and investing so much, we become selfish and overlook the people we care about when they need us.”
Beginning with a moody, clean riff, ‘imlostwithoutyou’ discusses the bitterness of heartache, expressing the hurt from holding on to these memories. With raspy vocals spitting out the lyrics, “hang me out to dry, I can’t go on without you” complemented with elements of math rock and pop-punk, Cafiero opens up passionately which, as the name suggests, stresses the importance he feels for deep conversations that help you to realise things about yourself.
‘Scapegoat’ is heavier and Cafiero’s vocal styles change frequently throughout between clean and mild screaming in desperation about trying to let go of past events, “It’s haunting me, the ghost of the kid I used to be” and “ I think I can’t let go”. The rest of the EP carries the same bittersweet energy with self-deprecating lyrics, addictive riffs alongside small musical twists such as mini riffs and louder bursts of percussion in between.
Calendar Daze is a helping hand reaching out to pull you into a better place. It’s private yet expressive in a way that it’s like you’re having an honest conversation with a friend one-to-one. It’s so important to talk to someone about mental health struggles and the frustrations with the same old routines, and every day stresses. What better way to release that than through music?
