Loose Fit are a new post-punk four piece from Sydney. Since playing their first show in early 2019, they have shown their faces on stages around the East coast of Australia, sharing stages with the likes of Negative Gears, Pinch Points and Party Dozen. Loose Fitis their self-titled debut EP, that takes influences from favourites such as Public Image and Talking Heads as well as their own wacky mix of heavy bass, saxophone and electric guitar.

The EP starts off with ‘Pull The Lever’, a track hugely dominated by bass with faint guitar sounds in the background. Anna’s mix of spoken word, singing and screeching, reminiscent of Kate Nash, carry lyrics about life being a series of risky gambles, “....spin the colours”. Interesting concept but It’s not particularly enticing as an introduction.

‘Riot’ certainly brings life to the EP with a faster bassline and a larger range in Anna’s loud vocals, proudly shown off with explicit lyrics “I’ve had enough of this charismatic shit.” Lyrically, the song lets off steam about frustrations with expectations, only in a short burst of 2 minutes but it’s enough to release pent up emotion concisely as it’s not a solely angry EP.

Loose Fit as a whole is a difficult experience through headphones, however it would sound incredible on vinyl and even more so played live.

This “moody critique of the absurd” is a release certainly geared towards punk fans who are looking for something fresh and exciting within the genre, offering a niche commentary of life and its frustrations.
