CLINT LOWERY - GRIEF & DISTANCE EP
Grief & Distance is the recent surprise EP release from Clint Lowery. Put together solely in quarantine, the EP contains three brand new tracks as well as acoustic versions of ‘What’s The Matter’ and ‘King’s’ from his full length debut, God Bless The Renegades, released earlier this year.
The first track, ‘Distance’ starts off with a fast and electronic riff before plunging into a dark and mournful turmoil of sad lyrics and eerie, wailing guitars. Brushing on themes of grief, and losing yourself to mental illness, ‘Distance’ is a scream at the world, asking why things have to be this way, how our lives just flash by and that highlighting that we do not appreciate it enough until everything we love is taken away from us. Particularly in a time where limited social contact, means being alone with our thoughts so much more without the rush of everyday ‘normal’ life.
“The EP was my way to process the loss of my mother, and the hard hit and the uncertainty of my livelihood from the pandemic.”, Lowery explains. “I escaped into my basement and into the songwriting process...it never fails me.” ‘Haunted’ depicts this journey of grief as landing in a psychological rut with lyrics such as “So close to losing myself in this pain // wondering when we will ever meet again”.
A truly heart wrenching EP filled with the conflicting waves of love and pain felt when losing a loved one, and a reminder of the harsh realities in life that we are all so distracted from every day. Which is all even harder during a pandemic. The lyrics are so touching and honest and offer solidarity with anyone who has lost someone close to them during this time or ever. A really powerful EP that brings tears to your eyes.
