Moon Panda have released their debut EP, Pastel Pool. Rosie shares her thoughts as the music takes her by the hand and drifts off to another world entirely.

Moon Panda are a duo made up of Californian bassist/singer-songwriter Maddy Myres and Danish guitarist, Gustav Moltke. Deciding to collaborate, they create music that fuses together slow lead riffs alongside ethereal vocals that almost lull you into a peaceful sleep.

Having moved cities, countries, and having played with many musicians, Moon Panda finally worked out what elements they’d like to incorporate into their debut EP Pastel Pool, released earlier this month.

Pastel Pool immediately pulls you into synesthetic experience, as if you’re actually swimming through a pastel coloured pool as you wind down to hypnotic, mellow grooves and get yourself lost in another world. The opening track and their debut single, ‘Rabbit’ starts with a shuffle drum beat and is accompanied by layered melodies and a wide vocal range, giving the track depth and shows off Myres’ potential.

‘On The Attack’ is faster and louder with a mission-impossible like bassline, and a build up to the chorus to express the pain and frustration of a long distance relationship. The melancholic reverb and whispering echoes add a haunting feel to emphasize further,  feelings of despair. The duo have an accompanying video containing metaphoric, psychedelic illustrations to visual represent the track.

Pastel Pool is a beautifully sounding EP that allows Myres and Moltke to take you by the hand and drift off to another world entirely. It’s soothing, hypnotic and well-crafted. Inspired by television, nature and space, all of the tracks slow your mind right down, making you notice and appreciate everything around you a bit more.
