Bank holiday weekend with no gigs and festivals allowed to take place seemed like a bleak place to be. That was, until, IDLES announced that they were doing a series of live-stream lock in sessions at Abbey Road Studios. Performing a total of 3 sets, the band rooted themselves over both Saturday and Sunday to give fans a reminder of how it feels to experience live music.

A cosy and intimate set up in the studio gave a comfortable feel for viewing, which is contrary to the noise they put out. I watched set 2 which started at 11:45 on Saturday night and opened with ‘Colossus’. Funnily enough this was the first IDLES song I ever heard so it set the tone perfectly.

Despite the fact you know you should be chucking yourself about in the crowd in front of a real life stage, Joe Talbot put his all into making it special; as did the rest of the band, every single member gave it massive spuds and treated it as you would an actual show.

Songs on the bill like ‘White Privilege’ and ‘Danny Nedelko’ are a testament to the punk ideology and reinforce just why IDLES are one of the biggest bands coming out of the UK at the moment. The additional bonus track, which was a cover of ‘Reptilia’ by The Strokes, was a pleasant surprise and a fucking great way to round it all off – they made it their own and most importantly, had fun with it, which again serves as a reminder of just how amazing the live music community is.
