Leaping over various hurdles to fully dedicate herself to the music world, Hannah Georgas comes back with All That Emotion, a touching new album following on from the success of For Evelyn, released in 2016. From studying classical piano in her childhood to dropping psychology, music truly has a firm place in Georgas’ heart. Having begun the recording process in 2018, it’s taken a long time to piece together and get right. ‘At the start of each session, I would make the long drive back and forth from Toronto to the Hudson Valley in Upstate New York itching to get back to work. At the same time, I appreciated the space in between and coming back in with fresh ears’.

‘All That Emotion’ is the first track on the album, opening straight up with the lyrics and a fast shuffle rhythm with odd clean guitar picks, it cuts to the chase and dives deep into what this album is about. Exploring the journey of human growth and development as well as the environmental changes going on around us. Girl In Red and RenForShort come to mind when hearing Georgas’ soft, angelic vocals.

Love and heartbreak is also a prominent theme. “I only thought I could find you in dreams. I've had”. Close personal interactions and subconscious thoughts are described in ‘Dreams”. ‘I get a lot of lyrical inspiration through the individuals I interact with in my everyday life… the music becomes a forum where I work out these feelings, embrace and express pain and love, joy and anger…” Layered vocals give an ethereal effect next to various sounds in the background such as warped guitar sounds and synths whisk you off to a mythical world where you can be close to whoever your heart desires.

The classical piano makes a strong appearance in ‘Cruel’, isolating the vocals to reflect devastation and heartbreak while trying to find an answer to someone’s actions. Slow and simple piano riffs send you off into the oblivion of the human mind where these feelings haunt and hide. ‘ I find it’s easiest to dive into my emotions through music’. The majority of the tracks have little to no introduction and get straight into the first verse, jumping right into whatever emotion needs addressing.

Georgas tugs on every heart string with All That Emotion turning a release of various feelings into a collective experience with the listener. Every melody is carefully crafted and produced to emphasise the lyrics as much as possible making them memorable and easy to hook on to. The album is well worth the wait.
