DENIM MOB - IF NOT NOW, WHEN EP
Denim Mob is the solo project from New Jersey musician, Jackson Zabransky. Following on from the leading single ‘Psylocin’ released last year, comes his debut EP, If Not Now, When, recorded at Rowan University’s in-house studios. “When ‘Psylocin’ dropped last year, it created way more buzz than I had hoped for,” Zabransky explains. ‘Psylocin’ is the first track of the EP that takes us down a winding road of funky Bee Gees style bass lines, dancey choruses and romantic lyrics.
Zabransky’s music is influenced by the likes of pop and electronic artists such as The 1975, MGMT as well as story-teller lyricists like Bruce Springsteen, “college has helped me to grow Denim Mob into a project and brand that I can move forward with. The lyrical material is really based off experiences I’ve gained at Rowan.”
‘In Your Eyes’ is slower and cheesier, discussing heartbreak and sadness with his nasally mumble, alongside clean guitar riffs and dreamy synths. The last couple of tracks are a little more upbeat with indie-rock elements and a saxophone solo.
If Not Now, When fuses together a variety of vocal ranges, bass lines, keyboard sounds and rhythms, leaving every track open to interpretation of how this music moves you. Denim Mob is a unique and thriving project that could be taken anywhere and has the potential to become something much bigger. It’s exciting to see so many crossovers between music genres.
