ANDY ROBBINS - SINNERS & CHARLATANS
Singer-songwriter, Andy Robbins, from Oxford has come, quite literally, so far in the past few years. From growing up listening to the likes of The Beatles and The Clash, Robbins gained a passion for music and played in various bands before making the leap to become a solo artist in 2014. Since then, Robbins has made an appearance at The O2 Arena and Cornbury Festival as well as going on his own tour in Austin, Texas, following the success of his debut release past three EPs.
Sinners & Charlatans is Robbins’ latest project, ready to perform in line with new guidelines here in the UK. The first track ‘For You’, featuring Tom Dalby starts off with a simple acoustic chord progression and romanticized lyrics “know that I’m always here and always will be for you” followed by a slow and seductive guitar solo. ‘Wild Flower’ has a much faster pace and a riff reminiscent of Oasis’ Wonderwall but paired with folksy harmonica melodies for an added twist to add to the metaphorical images painted by the lyrics and title.
The EP ends with ‘One For The Road’. The perfect jolly, fast-paced, end of the summer, driving song. Throughout Sinners & Charlatans, Robbins infuses heavy folk with American country and blues together, creating a collection of summer evening, campfire songs. Each track paints its own beautiful picture of the change in seasons, love, heartbreak and enjoying the great outdoors and finding the beauty in life despite all of the madness going on right now. A great, uplifting EP that brings people together and makes you hold on to those little moments just that bit tighter before they slip away.
