ON OUR RADAR: GHOSTS OF SUNSET
Introduce yourselves!
Todd Long – Drummer and multi-instrumentalist for Golden Robot Records recording artist Ghosts of Sunset.
How would you describe your music to a potential listener?
It definitely has roots carved out of the 1980’s hard rock scene. On our EP Headed West you can hear all the influences from early Van Halen to newer Bon Jovi and everything in between.
Since being a band, do you feel it has grown in the direction you hoped for, or has there been any setbacks?
When we started this a few years back we really didn’t have any intentions. We knew we had some good songs and wanted to get people involved that we looked up to. (Johnny Monaco, Stacey Blades, Brian Forsythe) and many others. We shopped the idea to a few other labels besides Golden Robot but ultimately, they ‘got it’. Covid has obviously put a hurting on everything but luckily for fans bands are going to be pumping out a lot of new music. Within the Covid time we have gotten a deal, management and a booking agent. We feel very lucky and blessed to have reached these goals in quite a difficult time.
Which tracks are you most proud of to date and why?
We really enjoy have a soft spot for our first single ‘Miles In-Between’ . This is the first song we wrote together and came out way better than we expected. It is kind of a cross between Whitesnake, Def Leppard and Enuff Z’ Nuff.
Where do you feel your band fit in in an ever changing and demanding music scene?
Every band has its place, the problem is you have to have good songs, work really hard and try and stand out. You really can't go anywhere if you do not have good songs.
Do you have any tips for keeping your mental health in check throughout this period of time?
For myself personally it has been my family and music that has helped me. Get out and walk but do it safely. Try not to stay cooped up for long periods of time. I’ve taken up the stationary bike and am trying not to pack on the Covid-19 in lbs!
What issues are important to you? How do you use your music and platform to communicate these?
Saving our small music venues is very important right now. A lot of these venues are closing and will not make it back, true with a lot of small businesses. It is super scary for a lot of families out there. We are going to do a single with two Golden Robot Records artist Eric Jayk of Wildstreet and Brandon Fields of Minefield and give the profits to Live Music Society in hopes that we can do our part to help out.
What is your top three albums at the moment?
Personally, so far from 2020 would be Knuckle Puck – 20/20, Michael Grant and The Assassins – Always the Villian and All Time Low – Wake Up Sunshine
What’s one song you wish you could have written?
Oh, there are so many but I would have to go with and this may be cheesey to a lot of folks but ‘Sailing’ by Christopher Cross. It is my all-time favorite song. The guitar line and melody it that song just moves me.
If you could tour with anyone, who would it be?
Right now, anyone! Would love to be able to go out with Poison or Bon Jovi, Those are pipe dreams for me!
What should your fans be expecting from your band in the near future?
Our 2nd single titled ‘Never Goodbye’ is out now. The song features Tracii Guns, Adam Hamilton, Bruno Ravel, Patrick Kennison, Brian Roth and it seems to be doing pretty well. Our 3rd single ‘Another Rock N’ Roll Show’ comes out in November and features Tim Mosher from Junkyard on lead guitar. The Ghosts of Sunset EP Headed West will be released in February 2021. We are currently writing and recording for our first full length release for Golden Robot Records as well.
