ON OUR RADAR: DAYS TO COME
Introduce yourselves!
Justin: Heyyy. I’m Justin, I sing and play the guitar for Days To Come. Brandon Rix plays the guitar, and Jalen Hall plays the drums. We like to have a good time.
How would you describe your music to a potential listener?
Brandon: Discount Myles Kennedy and Friends. We’re positive and upbeat. We’re sarcastic, but we take the music seriously. We’re a rock band with pop and prog elements and high vocals.
Since being a band, do you feel it has grown in the direction you hoped for, or has there been any setbacks?
Justin: For sure. We’re constantly moving closer to our sound. We’ve had setbacks and had to learn a few things the hard way, but it makes for good stories and a resilient attitude.
Which tracks are you most proud of to date and why?
Justin: The Forgotten. It’s the last track on Animus (October 2020) and it’s the longest song we’ve ever released - almost 10 min.
Brandon: I know releasing a song that long seems counter productive in our fast paced - zero attention culture, but this song is different. A few years ago, a friend of mine committed suicide and The Forgotten is about focusing on the time we have with each other and making the most of that time. We live and act as if we’re promised tomorrow, but we’re not.
Where do you feel your band fit in in an ever changing and demanding music scene?
Jalen: I think we bring a sense of familiarity musically that many people can connect with but also a new style melodically as it tends to follow more pop patterns whereas our music follows more intricate structures that really add a nice dynamic to our songs.
Do you have any tips for keeping your mental health in check throughout this period of time?
Jalen: Just remember the next gen consoles come out in less than a week.
What issues are important to you? How do you use your music and platform to communicate these?
Justin: I try to minimize my eco footprint and be conscious of the waste products I help create. I try to buy used if possible and use something completely before replacing it. We don’t really use our platform to promote that, but I’m into it.
What is your top three albums at the moment?
Jalen: Thirteenth Step by A Perfect Circle, ADHD by Joyner Lucas, and Time Travelers and Bonfires by Sevendust.
What’s one song you wish you could have written?
Brandon: For The Love Of God - Steve Vai.
If you could tour with anyone, who would it be?
Justin: We’ve had the best time touring with Gandhi’s Gun (San Antonio, TX) and Ventruss (Baton Rouge, LA). It would be fabulous to touring with them at the same time. We also loved touring with Dellacoma (Melbourne, AU) a few years back. He’s pretty much the Australian Mark Wahlburg.
What should your fans be expecting from your band in the near future?
Justin: We’re excited to promote Animus (October 2020). We spent the past few months of quarantine writing new music and we’re currently tracking that. We’ll release it in 2021. We’re looking forward to touring and being back out on the road in 2021
