On release day of their 8th album - Truth Decay - You Me At Six ventured over to Wales to headline at the Cardiff Motorpoint arena, with a few boxes of 500 limited Welsh editions of the new album stashed away in their tour bus to celebrate the occasion. Front man Josh Franceschi reminiscing at the first time they played Wales in neighbouring city, Newport in the early 00's and "4 people showed up", You Me At Six looked ready to ring in a new era for the band.
In tow on the tour circuit were Bears In Trees, The Maine and Waterparks. The start of You Me At Six's set felt like a homage to their roots & previous albums, with fan favourites ‘Fresh Start Fever’, ‘Liquid Confidence’ and ‘Too Young To Feel This Old’ in the opening songs to get the crowd feeling nostalgic and relive all the teenage angst that we've experienced listening to this band throughout the years. Then came a mix of newer songs from Truth Decay, which has more of a sound similar to their older, early 00s work than their more recent albums. One of note was ‘God Bless The 90's Kids’, which has an incredible build up in the middle of the song for the crowd to get pumped and let loose in a mosh pit, with Josh giving the command on the guitar breakdown.
All in all, an excellent show by the band who continue to evolve their sound with the times and a packed setlist for fans of old songs and newcomers alike, combined with the bands electric energy onstage, I'm pretty sure everyone wandered out of the Wales capital venue with a smile on their faces.
