WALLOWS - TELL ME THAT IT'S OVER
Los Angeles-based trio of Dylan Minnette, Braeden Lemasters and Cole Preston found success with their 2019 debut album Nothing Happens, which tackled the transitional period between being a teenager and an adult.
After navigating the world for three years and through a global pandemic, Tell Me That It’s Over deals with the struggle of improving, maintaining and ending a relationship.
‘That’s What I Get’ catches attention straight away due to its emotionally impactful chorus. Anyone who has been in a failed relationship can sadly relate to the lyrics “hard to believe you couldn’t see that you and me could be enough.” When someone hurts you on that level it’s hard to see that they couldn’t see you as their endgame.
A song that was made for live performances is ‘Permanent Price’. Being the only song on the album with a long intro and a different sound, this song would make a wonderful addition to their upcoming tour setlist.
Lead single ‘At The End of The Day’ is filled with attention grabbing lyrics. “Is that a problem or just something to ignore?” and “but at the end of the day, are we on our way to breaking?” instantly brings you to think about how so many of us choose to ignore the problems in relationships instead of trying to improve the situation or deal with it head on. Why pretend that everything is okay when you both know that at the end of the day you won’t make it better?
‘Guitar Romantic Search Adventure’ closes out the album, wrapping up the story of this relationship so well with a heartfelt acoustic melody. Vocalist Dylan Minnette allows us to reminisce with him as he sings about the attachment of the relationship, “sharing all the things we loved as we grew up” and “wish we could cancel time or let it fly by”. When you are trying to get to know someone on a relationship level, you do these things and get attached to not only that person as an adult but also fall for their inner child as well.
Tell Me That It’s Over’s new electric sound opens up a whole new world of sound for Wallows’ discography, showcasing their ability to be vulnerable and heartfelt throughout their rollercoaster of relationships.
