Scottish rockers, Twin Atlantic made their return to Bournemouth’s Old Firestation as part of their tour this Autumn, travelling across the UK’s smaller and more intimate venues.
Opening the night were Portsmouth-based band, Crystal Tides. The quintet started off their setlist with ‘Animated’, before playing several other songs including ‘Courtney Love’ and latest single release, ‘Detonated’. They kept the energy up between band members, and impressively warmed up a tentative and somewhat quiet crowd who were singing along by the end of their set to their earworm of a track ‘Headcase’.
After some crowd anticipation, Twin Atlantic jumped on stage, opening up with ‘Stuck in A Car with You’ their latest single which was released in September. With its catchy guitar riffs throughout, the band kicked off the rest of the night with lots of energy and had the crowd hooked from the get-go.
Without hesitation, the band moved on to perform an array of songs which span across several albums from the last decade and more. Clear fan favourites include ‘Brothers and Sisters’, ‘Make A Beast of Myself’ and ‘Free’. The band show-cased their broad musical talents as they dipped in to slightly different genres of rock which showcase each member’s instrumental and vocal skills. They performed a balance between more stripped back songs, such as the acoustic, heartfelt ‘Crash Land’ which had the crowd singing along at the top of their voices to the more upbeat ‘Bang on the Gong’, to the heavier, ‘No Sleep’.
Having been a band for over a decade who have progressed in style through the years, they are still producing those classic energetic guitar riffs and emotive vocals that make Twin Atlantic who they are. The band are clearly enjoying themselves and it shows in their live shows too - full of energy onstage and a joy to watch. Regular interaction and banter with the crowd from lead singer Sam McTrusty added to the intimate feel of the gig and kept the crowd engaged.
Closing the night with their most well-known track ‘Heart and Soul’ the band left the stage to rapturous applause and cheers from the crowd. A perfect end to a great night of live music, which left the crowd longing for more.
