The Dead Freights are spoiling us with releases at the moment; now comes Fever and the Thunder, just a couple of months behind the blinder that is Stray Dogs. Released 18th December, the Southampton four piece describe it, and their sound in general, as ‘gothic poetry spat over disco Nirvana’ which is pretty spot on.

Recorded at Mi7 studios, alongside producers and the like who have worked with Paloma Faith and The Vaccines, this tune combines classic R’n’R with fun discotheque sounds. Frontman Charlie James’ vocals are reminiscent to those of Carl Barat of The Libertines, stuck somewhere in between singing and spoken word, hissed over dirty guitar riffs and a steady drumbeat.

Fever and the Thunder also has hints of Arctic Monkeys influence circa their 'Humbug' era in 2009. Elongated guitar and calmer drum sounds make up the bridge of the song, before it kicks off for a final time with added aggression, which is what rock’n’roll is all about, isn’t it?

The Dead Freights continue to prove with every release that they’re destined for success; wrap your ears around this and you’ll never look back.
