SOFTCULT - SEE YOU IN THE DARK EP
If you’re looking for some easy loving lo-fi grunge to help you get through the day then look no further than Canadian duo Softcult and their new EP See You In The Dark. Having providing us with some already established bops since 2021 being excited for this new EP did not disappoint. Opening with soft grungy guitar riffs ‘Drain’ opens the EP in true Softcult fashion with slow beats and ethereal vocals it’s easy to love and lose yourself in the music. Despite the somewhat deep cut vocals the tune makes you feel like you are floating and nothing else matters in those 3 minutes. With a slighter more up tempo beat of ‘Dress’ we are again treated to some out of this world vocals accompanied by easy going guitar riffs giving yet another song that is hard not to love and vibe too.
With a slightly different feeling with an acoustic guitar ‘One Of A Million’ will have you captured and bopping along while making you feel that you are taking a trip through space which truly is the beauty of this EP and this band the talent for soft yet grunge tunes mixed with the skill of guitar feedback and obscure vocals there’s no denying this band are one to be excited for and no doubt we will be seeing them dominate stages across the world.
Keeping things lo-fi and easy loving, ‘Someone2Me’ is yet again another tune to love. With lyrics showing us this duo have not only musical talent but can also capture us with their impeccable lyric skills. This is the first song of the EP that comes to a sudden stop rather than slowly fading into the next and it comes as a pleasant surprise. Quickly after this sudden stop we are taken on another ethereal journey with ‘Love Song’. With slow distortions and angel like vocals it’s the perfect song to take a break from the fast-paced everyday life and have some time to reflect and take time to breathe.
To close the EP, ‘Spoiled’ had less distortions to start with and very quickly gripping us again. This song takes this EP out in style with it very quickly using the duo’s skill for slow beats and lo-fi style while still being captivated not wanting the EP to end. Things picking up a little speed before fading out in true Softcult style. Feeling somewhat ready to question the world there’s no denying the pure raw talent of this duo and all the things they can make us feel.
Softcult are certainly a band to be excited about if you haven’t already make sure to check out their work, they really have created a whole world to lose yourself in. If you catch them playing near you definitely take the time to check them out. This EP really shows us the talent this band has and cannot wait to see what the future holds for them as it is for sure to be big things.
