REAL FRIENDS - THERE'S NOTHING WORSE THAN TOO LATE
On the 24th of February, Real Friends released their EP, There’s Nothing Worse Than Too Late under Pure Noise Records. The EP comes after the band’s first album release since switching vocalists, and gives such a new sound to the band we’ve grown and known to love.
The first track, ‘Tell Me You’re Sorry,’ was brought to us in February of 2022, and has since become the band’s most popular track, according to Spotify and has amassed over three million plays. The track starts out strong and tones down slightly to start the first verse.
‘Always Lose,’ the third track on the EP which touches on feeling like you’re losing someone any time you open up to them, and wondering if things will ever be better. The song talks about thinking back on the past when things begin to get better and feeling like you’re lying to yourself when things do begin to get better.
‘I Don’t Have to Do That Anymore’ is more of a softer track looking back on a relationship that didn’t work out and left with a lot of hurt, and realizing that is in the past, and looking forward to what the future has. It gives a sense of growing from what we once were and where we were in the past and growing to be a happier, healthier person without the things that harmed you in the past.
The EP ends with acoustic versions of both ‘Tell Me You’re Sorry’ and ‘Alway Lose’ and offer a softer tone to the song overall, further pushing the message they’re trying to convey of feeling hurt by someone and wanting to take the steps to fix it and feel better.
In all, the EP is a wonderful way to express pain one may feel by realizing someone is toxic to them. They may be scared, and be afraid to do anything about it, but in the end, once they do, they feel better both in the situation and with themself as a person. The lead vocals fit perfectly with the backing vocals throughout the EP and help to amplify the feelings portrayed through the lyrics and instrumentals.
