LIKE MOTHS TO FLAMES - PURE LIKE PORCELAIN EP

Pure Like Porcelain is a positive, definitive step in the evolution of Like Moths to Flames’ sound; a welcoming blend of old and new.

Pure Like Porcelain is the latest EP from metal-core paragon Like Moths To Flames, and is a welcoming blend of old and new, which can be attributed to the addition of two new members, guitarists Zach Pishey and Jeremy Smith.

Pure Like Porcelain’s overarching theme is human imperfection. The EP stays true thematically until the end, with rawness and emotion at the forefront of each track.

The first track, ‘Ameliorate,’ draws you in with dynamic riffs and a beautiful, gut-punching chorus. This is a strong first track.

The second track ‘Views From Halfway Down’ is entrancing in all the right ways, with dreamy yet engaging vocals.

‘The Preservation of Hate’ is heavy from the start, especially compared to the softer/longer intros we see on the rest of the EP. ‘The Preservation of Hate’ is brutal, with unforgiving instrumentals and overwhelmingly harsh vocals. This track ends rather suddenly, which further compliments its wonderfully jarring composition. This was the perfect choice for a single and truly encapsulates Pure Like Porcelain and Moths’ updated sound.

‘Gnashing Teeth’ sneaks up on you, before full-on barraging you, much like ‘The Preservation of Hate.’ The vocals lend themselves perfectly to the dynamics of the guitars. This makes it my favourite song on the EP, although any of these tracks could easily take that title.

If you’re perhaps looking for a softer song on the EP, ‘Do Not Resuscitate’ is your best bet, although lyrically I find it to be just as heavy as its precursors.

This tentative artistic breakthrough has paid off - Pure Like Porcelain is a positive, definitive step in the evolution of Like Moths to Flames’ sound.
