In Earnest are an alt-indie trio from Southend-On-Sea, UK. Drawing attention from various media outlets such as BBC Introducing, Atwood Magazine and Earmilk, just to name a few. As their last release of the year, In Earnest are set to release their self-titled debut in October.

Ahead of world mental health day, In Earnest make this a core theme of their EP. “We want listeners to connect, to feel something- our aim is to encourage discussion around difficult topics like mental illness. By sharing our experiences we hope to provoke thought and inspire others to to start conversations as a result of our music.”

‘29’ leads the EP into a dreamy, atmospheric story about being honest with yourself about what you’re struggling with. Being at a crossroad age is a pivotal point of your life, in that you’ve lived long enough to have experienced hardships and lessons but at the same time you also have so much more to learn and see. Mental illness can affect anyone at any age. With acoustic strums and a gentle string melody and weightless vocals, ‘29’ is a comforting short-story to offer a supportive voice.

‘Put me Under’ talks about all the annoying reactions people respond with to your mental health issues and the things you keep telling yourself. Among a subtle acoustic melody, vocalist Sarah, coos   “ Now and then, I have a stock take of my mind...I always say I’ll start working out and cut down on ice cream...” Hugely relatable lyrics make you stop and think about your bad habits let you know that you’re not alone.
