Halflives are back with their latest EP V, a collection of songs that consist of vocalist Linda Battilani’s vision; a story of obsession, hurt, revenge and feeling left out. While also referencing the roman numeral for the number five, it also references the amount of tracks on the EP, all of which begin with the same letter.

The EP opens with a catchy guitar riff, before the drums and vocals are introduced. ‘Vibe’ does an incredible job at setting the mood for the rest of the tracks to come, and help to introduce the feeling of being used in which the EP uses throughout its songs. The chorus is super catchy, and upon first listen it is easy to get stuck in someone’s head.

‘Victim’ refers to a toxic relationship; knowing that something bad is back, but still wanting to be involved and experience the things associated with it. “I’m your victim and I like it” hints towards the revelation of the true colors of the relationship. The instrumentals within this track are very powerful and help to further push this idea and story along as the track continues.

‘Valkyrie’ is a slightly faster track leaving listeners with the thought of the antagonist always making the protagonist think they’re always right and using such thoughts to manipulate them into the things they may want them to do. The antagonist is determined to bring themself to the top, no matter what it takes, and that includes hurting the ones close to them.

The last track, titled ‘V (Psycho)’ brings the idea of finally breaking free from the situations spoken on earlier, and finally realizing the bad that happened within the relationship. The protagonist realizes that the relationship is harmful to them.

Overall, the EP is a perfect representation of realizing a relationship is toxic, and eventually leaving. The EP shows the victim finally finding their worth and leaving the toxic environment in hopes for a better life. The tracks in the EP are incredibly enjoyable, and help to easily portray the story at hand.
