German Electronicore might not be a genre of music you're familiar with, but its one I'd highly recommend you get aquatinted with as its absolutely bonkers, and Electric Callboy epitomise this with their sound. As part of their Tekkno world tour, they made a stop at the O2 Academy in Bristol, UK with support from As Everything Unfolds.
Electric Callboy opened their set by immediately firing off the confetti cannons (a re-occuring event during this show) and diving head first into their set with ‘Tekkno Train’, which is just a hilarious song to start a show with, whosever idea it was to get frontman Kevin Ratajczak to 'metalcore growl' out train choo choo sounds is a genius. This was followed by other of their notable and also still incredibly fun songs such as ‘Spaceman’, ‘Every Time We Touch’ (yes, an Electric Callboy-esque cover of that famous Cascada song from the mid 2000's) and ‘Arrow Of Love’. The band frontmen of Kevin Ratajczak and Nico Sallach had banter with the crowd and made lots of jokes between songs to keep the crowd energy high while setting up the next song, the party did not stop for the entire 18 song setlist which included a drum cover of ‘Sandstorm’ by Darude, and a mashup cover of Backstreet Boys ‘I Want It That Way’ and Frozen's ‘Let It Go’, a truly silly setlist which I can assure put a smile on the faces of the entire sold out crowd.
The band ended their set with not one but two encores, ending on ‘Pump It’, ‘Mind Reader’ and ‘We Got The Moves’, with accompanying costume changes relating to the respective videos, each of these songs having multiple confetti cannon blasts per song, just to keep the party going till the end, as well as ensuring the clean up crew have their work cut out for them.
Electric Callboy have said they'll be back in the UK sometime in 2024, whether that be another tour run or playing some festivals. Whatever or whenever it is, if you didn't get tickets to this year’s sold-out tour, I highly recommend getting tickets for their 2024 appearance, you won't regret it for one of the best gigs I've ever been to.
