Having just released their sixth album, Death & Love, Pt.1, Circa Waves returned to Southampton on their UK tour to play a sold-out show at The 1865. With two brilliant supporting bands, Corella and Peace on the line-up too, the crowds arrived early, with the venue filling up fast.

Kicking off the night were Corella, who brought lots of energy, hyping up the crowd with their infectious riffs and catchy choruses. A large portion of the crowd sang along to songs, including ‘Bloom’, ‘Lady Messiah’ and ‘Barcelona Girl.’

Next up were Peace, another band who had warm welcome from the crowd. They performed tracks including ‘Bloodshake’, ‘Wraith’ and ‘Lost on Me’. Despite a couple of technical difficulties, they still managed a set full of tracks which had the crowd singing, jumping and swaying throughout and warmed up the crowd nicely for the headliners to follow.

With great anticipation from the crowd, the lights dimmed and Circa Waves arrived on stage to huge applause and cheers as they kicked off their set with ‘Do You Wanna Talk’ followed by ‘Hell on Earth’. Songs ‘Like You Did Before’ and ‘Let’s Leave Together’, from their recently released album, bring back the classic Circa Waves vibe and were well received by the crowd.

Circa Waves performed an extensive set full of songs from their discography, spanning the last decade. They made sure not to forget fan favourites including ‘Fossils’, ‘Jaqueline’ and the more laid-back  ‘Lemonade’. Of course it wouldn’t be a Circa Waves gig without playing their breakthrough indie anthem ‘T-Shirt Weather’ which had the crowd going wild just from the opening guitar notes and closed the night on a high.

Throughout the night, the crowd sang along to every lyric, danced, and moshed with encouragement from the band’s frontman Kieran Shudall. As to be expected with Circa Waves, the show was filled with great atmosphere and energy from the moment the band stepped on stage. Their loyalty, interaction and appreciation towards fans, in addition to their chemistry on stage performing, makes for a superb live show.
