CASSYETTE: MANCHESTER UK - 22.02.22

Sweat, mosh pits and electrifying energy surrounded the Deaf Institute on the 22nd of February, with Cassyette dominating the stage following exceptional support acts AlienBlaze and Bambie Thug. Making the sold out 250-cap venue feel like Manchester Academy, it is safe to say the show was a massive success.

The night kicked off with AlienBlaze, as the venue slowly started filling up, with the alt pop singer/songwriter setting the tone for the mayhem that would follow. With interesting riffs, high energy levels and gritty instrumentals, it was apparent that the night would continue with heavy undertones.

Following AlienBlaze, Bambie Thug took to the stage with confidence and ease, with their music providing the audience with trap elements, electronic influenced beats and a punk aesthetic that kept the crowd engaged and fully alert and prepared for the main act.

Entering the stage with dynamic song ‘Like That’, it was clear that Cassyette had prepared a setlist that left no room for relaxation. With an already amped up crowd the moshes didn’t take long to appear with fan favourite ‘Dear Goth’ following shortly after the opener.

Petrichor marked the 3rd song of the setlist, as well as the first standout track of the night. Cassyette set a mood of anticipation starting the song with the stripped version of the chorus, slowly leading into the explosive instrumental of the studio version, that marked an astonishing crowd interaction. In this moment 250 people sang the lyrics to the chorus, making the venue feel multiple times bigger than it is.

The next three songs played: ‘Die Hate Cry’, ‘Behind Closed Doors’, and ‘September Rain’ showcased Cassyette’s technical ability and astonishing talent to effortlessly move from singing to screaming and vice versa within a matter of seconds. Specifically in the second standout track ‘Behind Closed Doors’, which also covered KID BRUNSWICK’s part of the song, as he was absent.

With ‘Dead Roses’ the audience responded with what could easily be described as the biggest mosh pit of the night, followed by the bands most recently released track ‘Mayhem’, to which no surprise the crowd already knew the lyrics to off by heart.

The setlist officially ended with ‘Prison Purse’, which was also the third standout track of the night. A highly energetic and catchy song, which was a perfect way to end the official setlist. The band came back on stage after multiple chants requesting one last song, with the encore, a repeat of ‘Dear Goth’, ending the concert the way it started, with high spirits and energy.

In conclusion, Cassyette’s first headline show in Manchester was one to remember, and there’s one thing that’s certain. The next time they tour, it will be a venue as large as they made the Deaf Institute feel like!
