BORN WITHOUT BONES - NYE EP
Born Without Bones push boundaries with their latest EP, NYE. Wanting to showcase their collective memories of their own experiences of New Year’s Eve, the band put together their own versions of iconic New Year’s Eve themed songs.
Starting the three song EP is a cover of Motion City Soundtrack’s ‘Together We’ll Ring in the New Year. This song is almost an anti-love song paired with heavy pop-punk production. A line that grabbed attention immediately is “I'm trying to find out if my words have any meaning” - a heavy and relatable line. Everyone has at least one situation where they feel like their words do not hit home to anyone, not even themselves.
New Year's Eve is a very romanticized holiday so having their own cover of The Zombies ‘This Will Be Our Year’' on this EP especially stood out, with the band commenting “I really love the idea of the “don’t worry about a thing, this is going to be our year, we made it” story arc in a song.” Reminiscent of a first dance wedding song, it feels like it would be perfectly matched with a slow dance with your partner under the kitchen light.
Ending with a cover of Death Cab For Cutie’s ‘The New Year,’ this song describes the two different points of views that people tend to have on the thought of starting a new year - feeling indifferent and hopeful for the new year.
Born Without Bones does an amazing job with the NYE EP. They address a lot of common feelings that people tend to have on this holiday and they do it in a classic pop-punk/rock way.
