On the 22nd of March, Canadian rapper and singer/songwriter BBNO$ played a sold-out show at the Manchester Academy for the second and last date of his UK tour, supported by Jungle Bobby and Ceo@business.net. Upon arrival at the venue, you could sense how excited the fans were to be seeing bbno$ as his fans were singing out their favorite songs and blasting them via phone speakers.
The first artist to take to the stage was Canadian rapper Jungle Bobby who managed to grip and excite the crowd more than any other supporting artist I’ve ever seen be able to do. Bobby’s set was full of wholesome interactions with the crowd such as asking them to turn to each other and to show them love - which spread positivity and laughter around the venue, as well as asking them to manifest the things they want in life by shouting it out. Bobby and the DJ (DJ Dan) put on an incredibly energetic set with songs such as Philadelphia and Motorboat which the fans couldn’t get enough of.
I’ve never been to a show where the artists seamlessly change over and carry on performing, but that’s exactly what happened this time around. Out comes Ceo@business.net (also known as Lentra), who from the get-go showcased his internet-based humor by engaging with the crowd that ended up with a majority of the venue chanting ‘cum’ for a good 30-seconds, which fully caught me off guard but it was very funny. As with Jungle Bobby, you could tell that everyone was well aware of who CEO was as everyone was singing and dancing along with the enthusiastic performer throughout the entire set, and with being at the front of the crowd for the first 3 songs, there were a lot of fans who recited the songs word-for-word such as ‘Blah Blah Blah’, ‘Suhwee’ and his most popular song ‘Buttercup’.
The crowd went crazy when BBNO$ came onto the stage, and when the crowd had shown every ounce of passion they could show, that totally changed when the first chords started playing. The set started off with ‘Resume’, the starting track on BBNO$’s latest album eat ya veggies, and once again the crowd did not fail to sing every word. The Canadian artist didn’t fail to take command of the stage, engaging with the crowd at every opportunity. Cutting back to his album eat ya veggies, BB stated that he would be giving away a cookbook to one of the lucky people in the audience.
The crowd exploded with anticipation once again when one of his most popular songs started playing, ‘Edamame’, which resulted in crowd-surfers making their way over the barrier. Even people towards the outer edges of the venue, who are normally the ones who don’t move around much, couldn’t help but dance and jump around.
Further into the show, BB got to a selection of shows in which he would normally perform with fellow artist Yung Gravy, however, instead, he decided to pick out 3 members of the crowd to help him perform the songs ‘Whip A Testla’, ‘Shining On My Ex’ and ‘Welcome To Chillis’ which got the crowd really excited, people jumping up and down to be the one accompanying the artist on stage. The chosen fans put everything they had into their part, despite nerves getting the better of them.
Jungle Bobby and CEO ended up joining BBNO$ on stage to help him perform a selection of songs such as ‘U Mad’ and ‘Chipotle’, before the Canadian artist decided to perform an unreleased track for the Manchester crowd titled ‘Mathematics’ - the crowd went crazy for the performance, with there once again being a wave of crowd surfers making their way to the front.
The crowd was then split into two sides, one half to BB and the other half to CEO and Bobby as they were given instructions to sing a certain part of the lyrics when called upon when they played ‘Take A Trip’, a song in which features all three of the adored artists. As if it was a competition, both sides made sure to make their voices heard when it was their time, battling to see who could be the loudest section (It was definitely the right side in my opinion).
I don’t think anything could have prepared me for the screams I would have heard when the intro to BBNO$’s most well-known track ‘LaLaLa’ started blasting in the venue walls. The amount of people I saw push to where the pit was situated was mental, but I don’t blame them one bit.
At one point, I could barely even hear the artists, all I could hear was the crowd screaming. The show started to come to a close when they played a final dance mix which consisted of ‘The Crazy Frog’ and ‘The Ding Dong Song’, which the fans seemed to love.
