The face behind Almost Autumn, Joelle Edwards, would describe her style as a combination of pop, pop punk, folk and the occasional rap, which you wouldn’t think when you listen to the Grow EP and hear this sweet voice singing back at you.

Each song is defined by a story, all to the sound of the artist’s soft-spoken type of singing with a slight accent and minimal instruments that consists mainly of an acoustic guitar.

Producing and writing her own songs, Almost Autumn delivers this peaceful yet moving EP, heavy with messages of positivity of times to come out of bad days which I found prominent in ‘Grow’ and ‘Bristol’ as well as messages of love both romantic and the rarer form of love to feature in songs-friendship, seen in ‘Chris’ which was a breath of fresh air to listen to.

The shorter length of the songs worked well, as it almost felt like you were able to be sucked into this comfy cocoon of a lullaby-like song for just a few minutes and be full of positive vibes to take on the day.

As I listened throughout the EP, I noticed Joelle’s voice getting stronger and more lyrical between ‘Grow’ and ‘Matter of Time’. I felt this mirrored how I gradually felt a stronger connection to the artist with each note and each lyric creating an intimate atmosphere. Listening to ‘Grow’ feels almost like a friend playing new songs just for you to listen to.

It is obvious, that these songs are written and sung from the heart - ‘Grow’ is something that is not only gorgeous but inspiring too.
