A FEW TOO MANY - OUT FOR THE COUNT EP
Cambridge-based band A Few Too Many have released their latest EP, Out For The Count, through Lost Music Collective. Priding themselves on the early nostalgia of the late 90s and early 00s, this band has earned themselves a spot in major publications such as Alternative Press, Kerrang! and Rock Sound in the past, giving clear indication that they’re doing something right.
Opening track ‘Unhealthy’ starts with guitars and equally powerful drums, instantly reflecting on the late 90s/early 00s pop-punk inspiration. The energy plays on throughout the track, and it’s easy to find yourself reflecting on earlier times when people would gather at skate parks and share their favourite music with others.
‘Someday,’ which is the third track, keeps the same energy going. Upon first listen, it can easily resonate with fans of bands such as The Academy Is.. or Cute is What We Aim For, both musically and lyrically. It is very much a track about knowing life is meant to be enjoyed, but in the same breath, knowing that right now, that isn't where they are.
Title track, ‘Out for The Count,’ is more of a power ballad track, and seems to be an ode to their time as a band. The line “We’re not here to make money, fame or fortune, we’re just close friends,” seems to suggest that the members are enjoying what they’re doing together, which is likely what makes them work so well together.
Closing track, ‘Haze,’ is another track that can send nostalgia through any listener. The track hints at seeing things wrong with the world and using music you like to escape it. Though it may just be for a moment, that moment can help tremendously when the world is the way it is right now
Overall, the EP very much sounds like something one would hear from one of the top bands of the early 00s but with more modern issues. This can resonate extremely well with those that grew up during those times with how much the world has changed during just our lifetime with the growth of social media, amongst others. It’s very exciting to think about what this band has coming next.
