 Introduce yourself!

Hi! My name is Emily Daccarett and I’m a singer/songwriter and fashion designer based in Los Angeles. I started my career in fashion and it was my first runway show that got me into music. We decided to work with a film composer (getting the license to the song I wanted was taking too long) and I provided the lyrics and vocals. I fell in love with the process and continued to work on original music for my collections from then on. I finally got to a point where I needed to focus a bit more on my music and the kind of artist I wanted to be. I began working on my EP, Cannibal, while going to music school and released it last November. Now I’m trying balance my two passions and continue to create!

How would you describe your music to a potential listener?

They are dreamers, nostalgic for the 70s/80s, they live in books and movies, and love life.

Since being a BAND, do you feel it has grown in the direction you hoped for, or has there been any setbacks?

Yeah It really has grown in an organic way. I make music because I love to do it. It’s a therapy for me and I’d never not do it. I guess covid has been a setback in terms of not being able to play shows, but it’s given me more time to make music. As well as make videos for all of the music I have coming out in 2021. So it’s been a bit of blessing in that sense.

Which tracks are you most proud of to date and why?

I’m proud of ‘Growin’ Addiction’, ‘Set Fire to the Fear’ and ‘Red Light’. ‘Growin’ Addiction was the first song I wrote as a singer and not for a fashion film score. It also set the mood for the entire ep. ‘Set Fire to the Fear’, was an open letter to myself to let go of the fears and doubts that stopped me from pursuing a career in music. ‘Red Light’ explores the seduction as well as the dark side of the entertainment industry and of Hollywood.

Where do you feel you fit in in an ever changing and demanding music scene?

I’ve tried to forge my own path and going the indie route both in fashion and now music allows me to stay uniquely me as I continue to grow as an artist. There are a lot of setbacks being a DIY artist but having autonomy over my career is important to me.

Do you have any tips for keeping your mental health in check throughout this period of time?

I’ve used yoga and working out in general to help me stay sane during this time. It helps clear my head and motivates me to work and feel like I’m not stuck in the twilight zone.

What issues are important to you? How do you use your music and platform to communicate these?

Where we are now and with social media (the internet in general), I feel we sometimes need a break from all the negativity that exists in the world and we need some escapism to recharge and know there are things worth living for. I try to create stories through my music and fashion that can excite people, let them dream, and escape for a few moments. It’s important for our mental health.

What are your top three albums at the moment?

Rumors - Fleetwood Mac
Norman Fucking Rockwell! - Lana Del Rey
Smile - Katy Perry.

What’s one song you wish you could have written?

This is a hard question to answer, I’m in awe of so many songs past and present. To me songwriting is therapeutic, it comes from the heart and from personal experiences.

If you could tour with anyone, who would it be?

Dua Lipa, she shares my love of Studio 54 and the 80s!

What should your fans be expecting from your band in the near future?

I’ll be releasing a new album in February 2021! I’m planning some exciting virtual events with it’s release!
