Square One Magazine finds out the important things you need to know about Ohio-based rockers, Big Smile.

Q: WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO WRITE YOUR LATEST SINGLE, ‘OSCILLATE’?

A: I wanted to write ‘Oscillate’ to address some of the issues I was having in my life at the time - we should be talking more about routine and how to break away from the way we are conditioned.

Q: SINCE BIG SMILE KICKED OFF, DO YOU FEEL THAT IT HAS GROWN IN THE DIRECTION YOU HOPED FOR, OR HAS THERE BEEN ANY SETBACKS?

A: Big Smile has already grown further than we ever imagined! Of course we have had some semi major setbacks, but we have proven our ability to overcome.

Q: WHICH TRACKS ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF TO DATE AND WHY?

A: I would say our most recent single, ‘Oscillate’, because we showcase a lot of our different influences and genre preferences through the track, as well as it being lyrically relevant to an issue I believe a lot of people have but overlook.

Q: WHERE DO YOU THINK BIG SMILE FIT IN AN EVER CHANGING AND DEMANDING MUSIC SCENE?

A: I don’t know if we fit in as well as maybe we feel we should, but we are a relatively new band in the grand scheme of things. We’ve stood out by being hardworking and dedicated to what we do. We really care about what we put out there and I think a lot of people recognise that.

Q: ‘WIT’S END’ TALKS ABOUT PRESSURE AND EXPECTATIONS. HOW DO YOU DEAL WITH THEM AND WHATS YOUR ADVICE TO OTHERS?

A: We deal with pressure by sticking together and making the best product we can, no matter what. I’m not good at advice of this nature, but pressure is external and temporary, and ultimately, does not matter.

Q: SOME OF YOUR TRACKS MENTION ANGER, SELF-INFLICTED PAIN AND HEARTACHE. IS THE CONTRIBUTION TO THE DISCUSSION OF MALE MENTAL HEALTH SOMETHING YOU ADVOCATE FOR?

A: Everyone’s mental health is important. I hope our music can be part of or maybe start a conversation for someone who may be struggling.

Q: WHAT’S THE MOST BIZARRE THING THAT’S EVER HAPPENED TO YOU?

A: Some really stupid stuff has happened to me, it’s hard to pick one thing. Collectively, we stayed in a haunted venue north of Chicago one time, crazy stuff!

Q: WHAT SHOULD YOUR FANS BE EXPECTING FROM BIG SMILE IN 2020?

A: Everything! New music, new tours, new mercy, new cities!
