ON OUR RADAR: ALIEN FEELINGS
Introduce yourselves!
Hi, we are Alien Feelings. We are a four-piece alternative rock band from Wrexham, North Wales. We are Josh, Dale, Ryan and Tim and we have been playing together for nearly 2 years. Thanks for taking the time to talk to us.
How would you describe your music to a potential listener?
We think, its indie rock fused with punk and grunge. But there are a lot of different nods to different styles in our music, because we simply love it. We don’t really like to confine ourselves to a single genre because there’s so much we want to do. We draw inspiration from all kinds of music. Saying that, we’re a rock band at heart and always will be. We won’t be ditching the guitars anytime soon.
Since being a band, do you feel it has grown in the direction you hoped for, or has there been any setbacks?
Well obviously the elephant in the room is the main set back. Covid-19 has stunted the flow of everything for everyone. But before the whole pandemic we were amazed at where we were going.
We had amazing gigs in some great venues, we were on a sprint after just recording our EP down in London.
Which tracks are you most proud of to date and why?
Dale: ‘Lie To Me’. It’s simple and funky like.
Ryan: ‘Radio’ because it’s fast. It’s more like the stuff that I listen to.
Josh: ‘Scream’, it’s just a good release to let it all out, it’s crazy and I love the crowd’s reaction when I say “Chain me to the bed and piss on me.” Some older people find it shocking and I love it.
Tim: ‘Dirty Water’, I love the rhythm of it and it’s psychedelic. Although we don’t know when we’re going to be recording it properly, it’s a great addition to our live set.
Where do you feel your band fit in in an ever changing and demanding music scene?
The current state of music has been predominantly without personality for years. You only have to turn on the radio and you’re exposed to this bland piano based pop shit where everyone somehow manages to sound the same. It’s basically stuck, sticking to a single formula of what a song is..... But, there is a rise in bands breaking through at the moment which is very cool and hopefully we’ll see more of that in the years to come, because music could be exciting again. So all I’ve got to say to our fans and fans of the alternative scene in general is to keep pushing the bands that you love because it means the absolute world to us all, especially at a time where if feels like the government have lost heart in us and believe we’d be better off doing something else. Keep pushing to save our venues, keep streaming and supporting local bands, and brace yourself for the resurrection of live music. Its going to be huge, bigger than ever and we can’t wait to be there with you.
Do you have any tips for keeping your mental health in check throughout this period of time?
Just stay positive, we are all in this together and it’s not going to be this way forever. It really helps to have something to look forward to. Even rehearsal is like a form of therapy that helps us.
What issues are important to you? How do you use your music and platform to communicate these?
Life as a whole is important, and often in music a lot of things are considered a “Taboo” subject, we don’t skate around these issues that people go though, we scream about them and we hope this connects us to as many people as possible.
What are your top three albums at the moment?
Ryan: …And Out Come The Wolves – Rancid
Tim: Haunting The Chapel – Slayer
Dale: Self Titled – The S.L.P
What’s one song you wish you could have written?
Tim: ‘Sorcerer’s Apprentice’ – Joe Stump
Ryan: ‘Christie Road’ - Green Day
Josh: ‘Happy Birthday’
Dale: ‘Wish you were here’ – Pink Floyd
If you could tour with anyone, who would it be?
Josh: The Jesus and Mary chain, because their music is just fucking awesome.
Dale: Fontaines DC, because we’re similar in a way, I just think if we were on the same bill it would be fucking crazy. It would be a crazy fucking good show like.
Ryan: NOFX, you can’t beat a good fucking circle pit.
Tim: Jim Morrison, well anyone from the Doors
What should your fans be expecting from your band in the near future?
They should expect loud and aggressive guitars, pulsating bass and thundering drums, topped off with poetic screams about the realities and fantasies of everyday life. Top notch song writing that delivers belting tunes from a belting band. We want to be heard, to have others feel what we feel when we are playing. The train we are on now is powering ahead and we have no intention of getting off it anytime soon. We will take Alien Feelings to the farthest reaches.
